One can never forget the sacrifices made by those that serve to secure our freedoms and liberty.

Five United States Marines and a U.S. Navy corpsman raised the flag of the United States atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. Of the six men depicted in the picture, three, Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, and Michael Strank, did not survive the battle; the three survivors were John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, and Ira Hayes.

Rene Gagnon was my ex husband's cousin. I loved the recent movies on this subject.
My brother Robin was KIA in Viet Nam in 1969. Close to home, you will find his name on the memorial at Penndale at the corner of Church and... oops the street name eludes me at the moment, and also on the Memorial in Memorial Park.
