The Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania is the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and was formerly the estate of John and his sister Lydia Morris, who purchased and landscaped much of the gardens starting from the 1880s.
This Morris family (not directly related to Robert Morris of Lemon Hill) had made a fortune in iron and steel manufacture and were firmly Quaker.

The arboretum is located at the far northwestern end of Fairmount Park, and only a couple miles from the Valley Green Inn, on the grounds of the Morris' summer home. John Morris was interested in collecting and growing plants from around the world. With many of the familiar and exotic spring flowers in bloom, is a most enjoyable place to walk.
