Belhaven is under the black A. The straight blue line to the right is the Pungo - Alligator Canal. After going through the canal, the plan was to turn northward and go down the Alligator River and then go across the broad waters of the Albemarle Sound.
We left the River Forest Manor & Marina and the town of Belhaven, North Carolina bright and early in the morning of July 9, 2001 and took the houseboat, the Water's Edge east to the canal. What our intended destination was, I no longer remember because we ended the day in Coinjock, North Carolina with a "Umm, Houston, we have a problem" situation.
A view astern of the Route 264 or 94 bridge - I no longer remember which. These two bridges are about the only man made things to be seen in about 35 miles.
A picture from someone's sailboat showing how straight (and narrow) the canal is, which gave me, the navigator, a break to enjoy the scenery and wildlife around us.
The area around the canal is primarily marsh land (which is why it isn't wall to wall housing developments) and is full of birds, reptiles and critters that enjoy swimming.
The Virtual Walker says, "The men in the white truck came with a padded jacket for the Real World Walker and took him away."

The real world walker got taken away to the funny farm. Fortunately as you know, it's just down the street. :)
