The Flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia
The latin phrase on the flag is "Sic semper tyrannis" which means "Thus always to tyrants". Whatever the heck that means. :) Interestingly enough, they were the words shouted by John Wilkes Booth after he shot and killed Abraham Lincoln at the Ford Theater in Washington DC on April 14, 1865.
The Blue Route of the Water's Edge - July 2001
The Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) stretches 1,095 statute miles from Norfolk, VA to Miami, FL, and each spring and fall you’ll find a long parade of yachts heading north and south (respectively) along its mostly protected waters.
They were several navigational choices in the vicinity of Norfolk. One was to run "outside" (in the Atlantic Ocean that is), one was to go via Dismal Swamp Canal and yet another route was via the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal. The last routing was the way plotted for the Water's Edge.
The map above shows the twists and turns and some of the "obstacles"** along the way. Our voyage went from Orange Park, FL (just south of Jacksonville) to Oxford, MD (near Annapolis) and covered roughly 1,000 miles. Someday, I hope to cruise the Dismal Swamp Canal.

The Green Route of the Virtual Walker - April and May 2008
The Virtual Walker plotted a course that crosses over the route taken by the houseboat and will go up the eastern shore (known as the Delmarva Peninsula as it consists of portions of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia) This routing achieves two goals:
1 - it takes the very scenic shoreline route and lets me revisit some of the places the Water's Edge went -
2 - avoids the dreadful Washington DC metropolitan area sprawl and traffic.
I will have to make a quick side trip or two across the Chesapeake Bay, however. There are some places well-worth visiting, even if only virtually, "across the pond" (i.e., the bay). I will also have to remember to turn right in Emporia.
P.s., The Real World Walker is doing well. I think the trip to the hospital helped. He has definitely calmed down.

Virginia is a pretty state. I've never been along the coastline so will look forward to any and all pics of your walk.

You would enjoy a visit to Assateague Island National Seashore which has a combined total of over 300 wild ponies in Maryland and Virginia.
And Styxie, one of those "side trips" is going to be over your way, the least I can do is bring some OCHA fumigation services.

Someday I hope we take a trip to the coast. Most epsecially the Island iggy mentioned...that's been one place I've always wanted to visit since I was a kid (thanks to those books by Marguerite Henry dealing with the area).

Now that was a very interesting read Chicago. It's too bad they didnt flip those so the 3 were the common seal but I can understand why they used the one they did.
Thank you ChicagoLady, for the link. That's a ton of heavy-duty symbolism they are using on their seal. To bad "Thus always to Tyrants" isn't terribly grammatical in English. :P
I remember reading a book, about the ponies, way way way back, (maybe when ponies first came out, evolutionary-speaking) and I was going to look up who might of wrote it - Thanks Styxie.
I've only been there once, and I was about 11 or 12 years old then - I remember seeing horses, but remember going fishing with my Dad more. We caught a load of Flounder and normal shaped ones too. :)
