OCHA Day Workers

Thanks to Photojournalist LadyStyx we have a picture that gives us insight into the plight of "day workers".


Here we see a truck carrying "day workers", notably all Orange Coneheads. One worker remains in the truck, while the others have jumped out and are striding off to work.

The term "day worker" or "migrant worker" has different official meanings and connotations in different parts of the world; the United Nations' definition is very broad, essentially including anyone working outside of their home country.

In some countries, notably the USA, the term has a specific connotation that the work will be low paid.

The "United Nations Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families" defines migrant worker as follows:

"The term "migrant worker" refers to a person who is engaged or has been engaged in a remunerated activity in a State of which he or she is not a national."

This Convention has been ratified by Mexico, Brazil and the Philippines but it has not been ratified by the United States, Germany and Japan.

Someday, however, the United Federation of Planets will need to get involved with things since we now have OCHAs and OSBs fighting each other for jobs that no one else wants to do.
