Colonel David Stern Crockett (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836) was a celebrated 19th-century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician; referred to in popular culture as Davy Crockett and often by the popular title "King of the Wild Frontier." He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo.
He was also noted for his coonskin hat. Due to fanatical anti-fur lobbying and ever growing scarcity of raccoons - the price of a nice coonskin hat is now running from $250.00 to $500.00 or more!
So, as you know, the folks in Texas are ever resourceful and creative and have found ways to combat the coonskin hat shortage. Roving Photojournalist Yellow Dog Granny captured the latest fashion craze in the Lone Star State.

Hey I almost got me a coonskin the other night taking James to work! Stupid coon ran straight out in front of me on a 4 lane road!!! Good thing he was fast lil bugger! Would of been cheaper than 250 to 500 though!
