I smiled to myself, for I knew this wasn't a blank note that someone had forgotten to write before mailing! It's written in secret ink!
I carried it back and forth with me to work in my briefcase for a couple months, to remind myself to scrounge around and see where I had put an old black light I had - and while the note wasn't forgotten, the location of the black light was!
And then I received in the mail, a little box containing a flashlight... a black light flashlight!! After scratching my head for some time trying to figure out how to put the three batteries into the flashlight, I at long last succeeded... and shown it on the note card...
...and the words floated up from where they had been hidden...
How cool is that!! I was transported back to the happy, sunshine-filled days of childhood... and just couldn't believe my luck getting such a great letter! Or having such a wonderful friend.

That is cool! And so clever for Rita to do that in a letter to you Iggy! I would have probably not thought it was a secret one that had to be "decoded" LOL and wonder why I was getting blank pieces of paper!!

How fun! We need more Rita's to remind us that we are all still just children trapped in a grown up, sometimes imperfect self. I sure wish I had known about the lemon juice ink a long time ago. It would've have spared me quite a bit of grief from the "authorities" of homeroom. Dang!
Yep, that's pretty cool. (the black light flashlight is pretty cool, too)
I received a note card similiar to this from Rita. I wrote a blog about it and even uploaded a couple of pictures (of the card and of my black light bulb i found), but that particular blog post was one of the posts that were eaten by Blogger when I was having those computer issues. Never got back to it.

I'm thinking it would be fun to send each of my grands a letter in the magic ink and see which one figured out how to read it first! Hmmmmmm
That is so neat....invisible ink! I don't think I ever used it as a kid. Would've been fun though.
that is cool. WE did that as kids, but we ironed it -
of course it wasn't invisible anymore. I don't think I knew about black lights then. My first encounter with black lights was at a dinner theater in San Francisco. Lights out, all the characters in the play were also the wait staff etc. Suddenly black lights and you could see their costumes shining in the darkness. BUT you could also see my bra and my friends bras because we were wearing light tops - it was really embarrassing.
I don't think I would ever, in a million years, look at that paper and think, "this isn't a blank piece of paper- it must simply be written in invisible ink!" That have never happened to me in my life! Very cool. How does it work? I'd quite like to write secret spy notes to people...
OMG that's so awesome! Kudos to you for being such a smart little sleuth. Someone must've read a lot of detective books growing up.
Now I need to go find some invisible ink and a black flashlight. Though if my own memory serves me well (I was also very much into secret codes and whodunnits), I believe lemon juice and a heating device would also work quite nicely, no?
